Navigating Difficult Workplace Relationships
Have you ever had a dream where you’re trying to do something but for some reason you just can’t do that thing? You’re hiking a mountain, but your feet keep slipping, or you’re at work and that one task that should be quick and easy becomes unmanageable?
Our original business partnership was turned into a trio about a year and a half ago and our new colleague has some interesting ideas on how things should be done here at American Flat Soap Co. Much like one of those dreams, the seemingly simple tasks that should take a few moments are now monumental. Schedules that once were easy to accomplish….well, let’s just say she has some very strong opinions on every single one of them and she is VERY vocal about it. We painstakingly organize things and she singlehandedly tears it all apart and makes us return to square one. Deadlines? Who needs deadlines when there are more important things to attend to? Don’t even get me started on the way she takes the lead on pop-ups and markets. When she’s done, she’s done.
As much as this new partner pushes us around and demands that everything is done her way, we wouldn’t have it any other way because she also reminds us to stop working and just enjoy life. She’s shown us that the things she undoes can always be fixed. The sticky notes she steals always seem to turn back up and get put in their rightful place.
This new business partner has definitely adjusted the way we do things around here, but she can stay. There’s even a rumor about another new business partner joining us in February. Oh my. Here she is, giving her input on a recent photo shoot attempt.
